Saudi Arabian Live Export Market Set To Re-Open

Will this show the federal government that banning live export is not the way forward?

Back in 2012, Saudi Arabia cut their live export ties with Australia in response to the strict regulations imposed by the country. Now, as the Labor government prepares to ban live export, Saudi Arabia may be opening their market to us again.

At its peak, Saudi Arabia was taking on a million sheep per year and was considered the largest market for Australia. Re-opening this route could double the number of sheep exported from Australia, with the access potentially being granted as early as next year.

“We know the amount of sheep that are sitting on farms at the moment, so an opportunity to export more sheep out of the state will be really key for many producers” - Steven Bolt, The Livestock Collective.
